Our world is becoming increasingly centered around new innovations and acquiring the latest technology. The latest improvements have come in the forms of digital technology used for entertainment, namely the iPod. Even the term iGeneration has borrowed that signature capitalization to signify this generation's ever increasing involvement in the area of technology. Ownership of iPods throughout this generation are more widespread than ever because of their affordability and accessibility. Our generation has been exploited by our own lack of analysis in the area of advertisement, made evident by the widespread popularity of certain products like the iPod.
In a survey done by "The Circuit" newspaper at Cypress Bay High School, John Garcia, a member of Generation Y, predicted that "Our generation will be remembered for the uses and advances in technology." Paula Quinones, a senior at Cypress Bay, was cited as saying, "This generation has a lack of personal contact." Presumably, the lack of personal contact is a result of extreme overuse of technology to communicate. It can definitely be said that this generation is completely engaged in the use of electronic equipment almost to the point of obsession. Portable devices that can be used for communication, such as cellular phones and laptops, have increased exponentially in popularity. In a nutshell, our generation is almost becoming synonymous with technologically advanced because of electronic devices and their involvement in everyday life. What are some signs that our generation is becoming more technologically advanced? What are some possible consequences of this shift in our methods of communication?
