College Competition

The halls of higher learning are becoming more crowded than ever and the iGeneration is feeling the effects. Because of the unprecedented increase in college applicants, colleges are becoming more and more selective with their admissions process. As a result of increased application, Florida Atlantic University has had to reject prospective students for admission.

It is true that competition may improve the quality of our education, based on the principle that students must improve their GPA's, SAT scores, and other numerical measures of competency. Ryan Garcia, a senior at Cypress Bay High School, noted that, "There is definitely more pressure,  not to live up to expectations, but to keep your head above the water... There is definitely more pressure in the college process." Notably, the iGeneration has been experiencing more and more pressure to succeed as a result of growing populations and rising standards of success. How is this scenario present in your own personal life? How does the economy influence the situation?
